@darthnerdus, one thing to keep in mind is that there is no virtualhost when installing just the rpm.

does the ios app require configuration?

in the case of the webapp it would be just http://plex or whatever, but with the rpm, it would be http://hda:32400.

will that help?

Issue #1203 has been updated by darthnerdus.

I don't believe so. For one, I was on the local network and the app discovered the server - I didn't manually configure it. Secondly, I was able to refresh and look at my media, but attempting to play anything errored out.

Issue #1203 has been updated by cpg.

updated rpm: alpha.amahi.org/tmp/amahi-plex-0.1.2-1.x86_64.rpm

contains a PID file in /run/amahi-plex.pid that appears to work.

i think we can skip this: nuke existing plex user and group. not worth the trouble.
so really, what we need now is:

make a 32-bit rpm if this works
ensure at a previous install will still be ok if we release amahi-plex

to test the second item, we do this:

install the regular plex app as we have it
manually install the rpm with: rpm -Uvh amahi-plex
verify that minidlna is left alone and plexmediaserver is gone for good

if you guys can test the above with this rpm and report, i will take a look at the 32-bit packaging

h. Did not try installing minidlna. Presumed we need to resolve this first.

this is the latest rpm alpha.amahi.org/tmp/amahi-plex-0.1.3-1.x86_64.rpm

i am prepared to go with this one and take the fall for existing users whose service may stop working.

heck, it's in beta anyway, so let's just tell them how to fix it if it breaks.

there are too many wrinkles to deal with.

Agreed. I will test it tonight when I get home.

Added the new amahi-plex package to the Plex test app and installed with no errors. Had a problem with the URL resolving though. Not sure if that's a VMDNS issue on my end or the app. Anyway, http://localhost:32400/web and http://hda:32400/web both resolved with no issues when manually entered.

I installed DLNA without error. I then uninstalled the Plex test app and DLNA was still working fine.

Looks like this might be the magic solution :) Is there anything else I need to test with the Plex test app?

do you have the time and technology to test the 32 bit rpm?

alpha.amahi.org/tmp/amahi-plex-0.1.3-1.i686.rpm

if so, please do and send this bug back to me. if not, please let me know and we will release it without much testing anyway.

#11 Updated by bigfoot65 over 7 years ago

I do have capability. Will let you know how it goes.

#12 Updated by cpg over 7 years ago

i went ahead and released it (still with the app in beta) out of a desperate need to move on. the official plexmediaserver packages are banished from the amahi repo. the amahi-plex packages supercede and obsolete those old plexmediaserver packages.

we want to keep an eye on how installing this app goes now, and anyone reporting their existing plex dying or something.

the update has happened to a lot of people already.

if we find that the new service (called amahi-plex) does not start or something, a possible work-around would be:

systemctl start amahi-plex

and if that does not help, check the end of the logs in /var/log/messages.

#13 Updated by bigfoot65 over 7 years ago

Installed on 32-bit without error. Service started and app worked as designed.

Installed DLNA without any errors. It works as well.

Looks like this one is good now. Recommend closure and release the app LIVE.

let just let is simmer for a few days. we have #1302 for the work-around for people whose plex breaks, but let's keep an eye on how it goes.
