Description

What do we do for ownCloud for Amahi 8?

Looking for advice, because we're working on Amahi 8. We have well over 100 apps tested at this point.

1) There are a few ownCloud app variants: which one should we keep and which ones should we ditch?

2) What DNS and DB name strategy should we use? Should we use "owncloud" for oc8? and future versions can use "owncloud-9", etc?

Anything we learned so far that we want to improve upon on going forward?

1) There are a few ownCloud app variants: which one should we keep and which ones should we ditch?

I guess ditching a prior version of ownCloud in some ways depends on the Amahi version release? For example some of use lazier Amahi site owners are still using Amahi 6 with ownCloud V4.5. It's been one of my "round to its" for sometime. When will you be ditching Amahi 6? You should probably be implementing and End of Life schedule. It would force us lazy ones to move to a newer version of Amahi. Personally as far as which version of ownCloud is offered, it should always be the latest release that is live, of course will a time period so that we can all update/upgrade. Soon ownCloud V8.1 will be offered which is a major release in the v8 product life cycle.

2) What DNS and DB name strategy should we use? Should we use "owncloud" for oc8? and future versions can use "owncloud-9", etc?

Having a separate database (owncloud<major version number) and file storage location (also same numbering scheme) comes in handy when bigfoot and I are troubleshooting and testing. It also helps if production site owners need to roll back to a prior dataset in case of upgrade troubles (provided they understand what is needed). The mainstream ownCloud community has the database and file storage default to "owncloud". I am not sure what to recommend here for a future Amahi production plan. I don't really mind, however I am currently working a on new version of the "oc-tools" scripts that I hope to make backups and restores a bit more transparent to the Amahi naming convention currently use for ownCloud.

I can't think of anything else at the moment. I would be willing to further discuss things for interactively, say via email, less public that way, should the need arise.

PS: Has anyone had any luck at getting Amahi to work on the Raspberry Pi 2? Just curious.
