Description

Built a HDA on Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackelope) and the hda-platform seems to run except for the app installer. Because Amahi is currently based on yum, and Ubuntu uses apt-get, should add support for .deb or .rpm packages depending on platform.

besides the installer, this is the next logical step to work on for ubuntu. excellent.

probably the best solution is along the lines of:

1.- abstract things and make the platform self aware of the OS it's running on
2.- interpret what comes in as debs not rpm packages

if you can work on 1, i can work on 2, so that the api returns something that it's a deb name already.

can you pick an app that we can use to debug this?

Tried to install Linpha on my Ubuntu hda, but getting the following in amahi-app-installer.log:

andy@mydelltoy:/var/log$ cat amahi-app-installer.log
/var/hda/platform/html/script/install-app:7:in `getpwnam': can't find user for apache (ArgumentError)
from /var/hda/platform/html/script/install-app:7

16:09:39 <cpgbb> I found the problem
16:10:19 <cpgbb> In the ror app scripts/ area
16:11:00 <cpgbb> Find the installer
16:11:34 <asp|hda> I'm there
16:11:36 <cpgbb> It looks up the Id of apache to drop privileges to it
16:12:22 <cpgbb> Change the user to the one that httpd runs as

16:20:24 <asp|hda> could it be because /var/hda is marked as root:root for owner & 755 for permissions?
16:21:06 <asp|hda> looking at my other hda, apache owns web-apps dir...lemme update on my ubuntu machine and give another try.
16:21:33 <cpgbb> The web-apps one is the one that matters now
16:21:58 <cpgbb> Check and note what it has first!
16:22:14 <asp|hda> it has "root"; changed to "www-data" -- trying again

16:22:52 <asp|hda> woohoo!!! success

16:47:39 <asp> hmm...
16:48:02 <asp> http;//linpha (even adding to /etc/hosts) redirects me to http;//hda/hda_linpha_app on ubuntu
16:48:20 <asp> since I'm having a DNS issue on my ubuntu machine
