Connectivity status of static ip'd machines
It would be nice to have a simple information box or button to know when a machine is connected to the network. This would help assist when checking connectivity between remote machines, and to help decide if a machine needs to be woken by lan etc.

Check out the fping utility. Install with
yum install fping
This will give you a list of all systems active in the subnet.
fping -g 192.168.1.1/24
Note that if a system is configured to NOT respond to PING, it will not show up, and often gateways and firewalls are so configured.
