Description

Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS, 64bit
This is a fairly minor issue, but it should be resolved so that the amount of unnecesary writes to /var/log/syslog is minimized. It should only affect systems that have a misconfingured nullmailer installed and not replaced with any other MTA software, such as sendmail/postfix/exim, instead.

Ubuntu installs nullmailer as the default message transfer agent. Since nullmailer isn't configured during or after the installation processes, applications that attempt to send emails won't be processed and will remain in the mail queue. The issue is that nullmailer would rescan the mail queue every few minutes and attempt to send the emails successfully, but it would generate the following errors in /var/log/syslog since it fails instead: http://pastie.org/4396084. Depending on the size of the mail queue, it can easily generate large log files.

Possible Solutions:
- replace nullmailer with exim/sendmail/postfix with local delivery during Amahi installation
- notify the user that nullmailer needs to be setup with a proper smtp server in /etc/nullmailer/remotes
